On a dry, cloudy, windy Saturday at Odense Stadium, Flensburg Baltics played a DK-West team in 10 innings for the first DK West Invitational Cup. The first 5 innings were pitched by Trevor Tabaka of Odense and Mark “Randy Johnson” Makowka with DK West prevailing over a 6-2 outcome. The second 5 innings were pitched by Joe Carpenter of Århus and Jascha Wilke, with Flensburg prevailing over a 8-6 outcome. In the pause between games, President Rod Moore offered players from both teams to taste 4 types of Danish beer from Århus, Horsens, and Funen. Carlsberg and Budweiser were on standby after the tasting was done. All had a good time and the growing friendship with Flensburg has led to discussions of a possible fourth team in the Danish Baseball Federation West division for 2025. A notable event in the first game was an inside-the-park home run by Andreas Calov of the Wolves. The second game ended with bases loaded for DK West who only trailed by two runs. The strong winds blowing in from right field created havoc for outfielders trying to catch fly balls. Many, many thanks to Flensburg Baltics and our Baseball Umpires of Denmark for making this a joyful day of baseball!
